These firmwares do not appear on the Pioneer website though. I am led to believe that the official release is on the 12th Sept. There is a RPC-1 version of the A03 1.9 firmware in testing at the moment (unofficial version).

Here's the hacked A03 firmware version 1.9 RPC-1. Still being tested so use at your own risk. The A04 1.31 version should be available soon.
The hacked A04 RPC-1 1.31 firmware is now available. I'll up it if anyone really needs it. Not sure if the original files are beta, some new A04's seem to be shipping with 1.3 firmware. Pioneer are supposed to be releasing new firmware on the 12th. As I said before, and Joripe said - use these at your own risk.

I've got a brandnew DVR 104, it came with firmware 1.3.
My experience: It's still causing troubles when using DMA transfer mode. My first burning attempts resulted in two coasters. As it has been told here before, with PIO 4 mode you're on the safe side.
Yesterday I upgraded to firmware 1.31 (downloaded from farzeno site), but lacking dvd-r discs wasn't able to test it so far.

well, I don't desperately need the 1.31 RPC-1 firmware but would still appreciate if you uploaded it, just in case I'd like to have a region free device.

well i just got off the phone from Pioneer Tech(UK).
They tell me that in the final firmware,the A03 will NOT surpport
any 2x disc done by ritech in the future...wtf
plus there are another 5 dvd-r updates for the A04,
but not the A03. They say the A03 is no longer in production
and they will not be puting more makers of 2x in future updates.
well i think Pioneer have just shot them selves in the foot..
Sony(yeh i know)are bring out a 4x dvd-r/dvd+r drive next month.
so i think i will wait for that one...what about you guys ?

hmm... I´m not 100% sure ...but I´ve heard about one which is already out there for sale 
(but no 4x support)
