Any experiences with this drive anyone ?, i currently own a a03, thinking of buying the Sony.

mmm read not so good news about this drive..
Looks like a +R/RW drive with some -R/RW support built in at the last moment.. Nero has BIG problems with this drive.
+ works well, - does not

hmm..if this is true ... the prob with Nero can´t exit for long ..cause everybody knows that there is a new Nero version every few days ;)

btw. I would stick with the Pioneer drive...until more drives r out and prices go down ...

Hi,

I just bought the Sony DRU500A yesterday.
This far I have only tested the sony (on a DVD-R media)
using the software that came along with the burner.
That went all OK. In the next few days I will burn
some DVD using Nero.
So hold on few day. I'll let you know about the results of my test.

I purchased a sony dru-500a this weekend and it seems to burn allright for me. I burned it with HP media, apple media, and memorex and all seems to work fine, but i haven't try burning cdrs yet

I bought the Sony for 370 euros. Good price compared
to other brands if you consider the support for RW- and RW+.

I hope that the latest Nero version supports the drive properly.because although it was recognised by former versions of Nero,it wasn't fully supported...

I have been testing CDR burning with Nero on the DRU500A.
It works fine on data CDR's while I got some errors reported on Audio CDR's, but the CDR's audio plays correctly despite the
error messages generated by Nero.

InCD v3.37 from Ahead does not support the DRU500A yet,
so this means no UDF writing on a short term using InCD.
If you are aware of another pakket writing program
working with the DRU500A, please let me know.

I a while a will test DVD+ and DVD- along with nero burning.

Roxio DirectCD works with DRU-500A gracefully. Mine has upgraded to 5.3.2.34. Also, Nero support it after 5.5.9.14.
My problem is DRU-500A seems to have diffculty on cheap
DVD-R/RW media. I have a bulk of cheap media which can't
be acceptable by DRU-500A. The DVD-RW is not recognized
at all. All DVD-R are failed on writing. I have 50 of them left.
I hope there will be new firmware to fix it or I have to dump
it.
