I hope this is ok, I have read a few post regarding some good freeware and I have found that sometimes, the best software for a specific job truely is FREEWARE.

Think about that for a minute, pay $100's for a Bloated crapper or use a FREE work of art ... And they do it all just for the love of what they do or in the true spirit of the birth of the web - Sharing!

So I thought I would share some of the TINY greats I have found that really do a GREAT job doing what they do, often times better than their commercial counterparts. Sometimes they like to be told THANKS so if you like any of it drop them a thank you email, it just may make their day!

This one is one of my personal Favs!

I hate the names a lot of FONTS have like ... srth63.ttf ... What the heck is that supposed to mean ... So this renames them automatically to their REAL name by reading the internal name and thats what it names them!

This one saved my butt once too ... For some crack head reason XP screwed up and wouldnt let me use the search feature so this single file proggie did it even better than winblows built in one!

(it was a short moment of mental breakdown but dont worry I am faithfully back to win2k)

Here is a Gem for those, like me, that like to use MSIE and NS both - depending on what we are doing and want a super tiny and fast way of turning Favorites into NS bookmarks and NS bookmarks into Favorites!

This one is for those of you old fans of the small and groovy DOS tools ... This one is what it says so be careful with it ... It does to your drive what it sounds like ...

Ever read the back of a bottle of LYSOL? It kills everything ... But dont worry ... you have to confirm it a 1/2 dozen times before it runs ... I like it cuz it cleans the HDD is about 5 seconds ... pretty dang fast.

Like making radical ASCII art?

This one will take a PHOTO of anything and turn it into one heck of a monstor ASCII PHOTO using only text ... More fun than useful ..

If you are using win2k or winXP and NOT server version then grab this little bad boy ... I found it digging around good ol Billy Gates website ... It is to turn off all of the monitoring DLL's that are NOT used or needed in workstations but are turned on by default!

Just like microsoft! Its not a BUG its a FEATURE! HAHA, ya right!

An oldie but a goodie ... Sure there are 101 other ones out there but this still does what I like ... without making me get a degree in button pushing to configure anything ...

Another MS goodie ... Especially if youre a power user and you build websites ... There is actually only 2 of the option I select ( the FIRST and the LAST feature and I unselect all the others) but they are actually SUPER handy ... And dont be mislead by the name or version number ... I have always used it ... even on IE 5.5 and IE6

There are dozens of these out there but I found this one first on my CDs where I back everything up ... This decodes the **** passwords in case you forgot what you typed in the password box (Like in WS_FTP_PRO - Its a lifesaver) ...

Need just a simple quick proxy proggie without all the bloat or pain in the @$$ settings just to make use of a quick proxy ... Then Multi Proxy will do the job ...

I even updated some of the proxy list for you ...

Download from FTP sites and wonder what those .SFV files are or how you can use them to check your downloads for corruption or completeness?

Then WinSFV it is ...

Now these next 2 are WAY COOL ... If youre a true power geek like me then you cant stand having out of date BIOS or drivers for things right? And it bugs me to have to reboot to try and quickly write down what version and maker BIOS I have ... These 2 will tell you ALOT about your BIOS ... Maker, version, revision, etc, etc ... One of them will also run a series of test to tell you what features your board supports and they will even let you save all the info it finds out to a TEXT file.

There are 2 different ones in this file ...

jv16pt - This one is one of the best period ... if youre using win9x and you have trouble with it (I had it happen just once) then I would goto h**p://www.jv16.org and get the freeware proggie called RegCleaner since it seems to like win9x better but this one is what is replacing RegCleaner ... Much more feature rich and can really make your life easier ...

I still like to keep this around since those new ones Adaptec came with seem to always screw something up ... (Like last time it made my win2k machine lose Long Filename support - Go Figure) ...

Works for win9x/ME/2k/NT/Xp, etc ...
