svcd to vcd

Ok I know no one will get this, but I want to take my svcd's and turn them to vcd's. My stand alone will not play svcd's but will play vcd's. Any one know anything about this? Thanks for the help.

there are several ways to do this. One way would be to use ISObuster or possibly winISO or VCDgear & extract the SVCD mpg (dat) file from the CD onto your HDD, then just load it in tmpgenc & convert it to a regular VCD with the templates. Check out the tutorials section by ChickenMan. You can put together how to work this by there.

I'll leave ChickenMan to respond to this in more detail (as I haven't personally done this conversion, but this should be how to do it).

M2edit

You can do it with M2edit also.
Chickenman will know which is best.
If I havent put him in a pie by then!lol:p

daveml, yes M2-Edit can do the job but final quality is not very good. I would recomend the following procedure.

1. Demultiplex the MPG file with TMPGEnc (Simple De-mux in MPEG Tools section)

2. You end up with a m2v (Video) and a mp2 (audio ) file.

3. Convert the mp2 file to WAV (I use GoldWave, just load in mp2 and save as a WAV, stereo, 16bit and at same freq as original)

4. Copy the attached mpeg2 pluggin to your TMPGEnc folder.

5. Run TMPGEnc, loading in the m2v file for Video and the WAV file for Audio, select the appropriate VCD Template (PAL for a PAL SVCD, NTSC for NTSC one), change in Settings the Motion Search Precision to Highest Quality (Very slow) and hit Encode. You may also wish to Normalize the Audio level. Sellect the option in the Settings/Audio tab and set to 100 and let it search the WAV file for its recommended setting.

Any probs, just post.

Chickenman

Just to confirm, can I use M2Edit to repacketsisize vcd like in M1Edit?
I asked Crash who knows her stuff but she's not 100%.

Crash is a good student of mine. :D

Yes M2-Edit will repacketize the same as M1-Edit, its just under the Transpose feature and no real mention of it. I've been using M2-Edit for sometime now.

I've found that when TMPGEnc converts an AVI to VCD, then run M1-Edit, the a/v sync can go out. Generally with M2-Edit it does not.

Demuxing a file with TMPGEnc and re-muxing the file with Wombles MPEG2VCR does the same thing as M1/2-Edit, it just takes a bit longer and I use in special cases when M1 or 2 -Edit ever fails for some reason.

M2Edit Pro

I searched for this and got it from another post.
The search button is very useful.
As Chickenman said it(the prog) does everything M1edit does and more.:D

I don't want to jump on anybody's feet here,BUT another way is...
1. Isobust SVCD to your HDD.
2. Use DVD2AVI and process.
3. Load in TMPGe as Chickenman said.
4. Packetise.
5.Enjoy.

I know this thread is old but I've just converted my first svcd to vcd.

Just do as Tootrue said except u dont need to isobust the image.
Just open the svcd with explorer, open the mpeg2 folder, copy the avseq01.mpg file to your harddrive, then process with DVD2AVI etc.
Worked for me!;)

Thanks for the help. I did it the exact way Chicken Man said and it works. I will have to say that the quality did degrade allot more than I wanted but at least I can watch my movies now. Any one know of a way to clean it up any?

Thanks again

ime not sure, but cant you just burn the SVCD as a VCD using nero with compatability switched off? this way the dvd player thinks its a VCD, something to do with the header?

stimpleton, yes that can be done, but will not work on all DVD Players, in fact not on most. Try it on a short clip first and burn to a CDRW (to save a coaster).

Sony now plays SVCD

Sony DVP-S725D does *NOT* support SVCDs. I trick Nero and the DVD player into playing a VCD file, but it's really playing SVCD MPG files.
I use TMPGEnc to encode my AVI file to SVCD or if you have an AVSEQ01.MPG file then follow the process below. It takes about 5 minutes depending on CPU and hard drive speed, also ensure you have enough hard drive space.

1 - In TMPGEnc select FILE -> MPEG tools.
2 - Select 'simple multiplex'
3 - Select type 'MPEG-1 Video-CD'
4 - Video input - browse to input your SVCD.MPG file, ensure that when you insert the file into the 'video input' the option doesn't reset to 'MPEG2'. If it does click 'MPEG-1 Video-CD' again.
5 - Output 'New name and location for the file'
6 - Hit Run.
7 - Finish with NERO (version 5.5.8.2) using template Video-cd (you may need to turn off the standard compliant option, but as all new files have a VCD header they will now trick NERO into thinking they are really VCD files).
8 - Drag files and burn, I use - Packard Bell CD-RW 80 mins 700MB 1x-10x as they play great, are cheap and no coasters.

Have fun

I have been doing this for some time now as my dvd player will not play SVCD with full a/v sync and I therefore have to rip the svcd , demux , reform the audio file with besweet (mp2 to mp2) with negative delay and remux with tmpgenc to SVCD and play.

Alternatively I have ripped the SVCD with VCDEasy, Used dvd2avi to extract a d2v file and a mpa file, converted the mpa file to wav with besweet, entered d2v and wav files to tmpgenc and encoded as non standard VCD. ( see VCDHelp.com for details of templates). Using a variable bitrate and 2 pass encoding a very good quality VCD can be obtained. Even single pass variable bitrate gives good results.

You will need version 1.3 of besweet obrainable from Doom9.org

Best of luck

That is one way.
However many Dvd players cannot play the XVCD that u have created.
Using tmpgenc to create a compliant vcd only loses u about 10% quality and it will play on any vcd compatible machine.
