what will edit ST1 sound files ?

Hi. i know diddly squat about music formats and editors (yet) but at the moment i'm in need of a sound editor that will open St1 sound files,i want to edit the sound files of the game Grand Prix 4,but knowing which editor that is capable,if any, to use...

All help appreciated

Well, I've never heard of ST1...it may be a special format
just used by the game, in which case you're out of luck.
I would suggest trying to open a small one( if there
are any), in a hex editor, or something as simple as NotePad.
Look at the first couple of lines, there might be something in
there that will give you an idea of what it actually is.
For example, a .wav file will have the words RIFF and
WAVE at the beginning, and you could try changing the file
extension to .wav from .st1 and see if it'll open.
Make sure you do this on a COPY of the file and not
the original. I tried this once with another game, and, even
though it let me open the file and alter it, when I put it back in
it wouldn't work right.
The only other thing I can suggest is take whatever
editor you're using, write down all the formats it supports,
and rename a copy of the file using each of the supported
extensions and see if they'll open and play right.

st1 format

are these not atari files? so possibly being midi. try renaming to mid maybe? jkat:cool:

sound editor

wavelab 4 (steinberg), soundforge6. are u sure they are sound files and not atari image files? just did a quick search for file extensions and couldnt find anything, the nearest info i could find :- h**p://www.darkmazda.com/nesticle.shtml and they look like saved game files?? sorry. jkat:cool:

i did the very same search and got the same answer...
they're definitely not save games...becuase they are in this folder D:\Grand Prix 4\sound\PC

my save games are here D:\Grand Prix 4\GPSAVES

plus they are 20 megs in size each

true speech ?

maybe they are true speech files(pit to car?) and in that case there is a player n convertor here h**p://www.dspg.com/player/dwnld.htm then maybe u could capture a live stream of audio? but thats another kettle of fish:) btw maybe try 'mod' extension (they are similar to midi. jkat:cool:

i was looking in the wrong folder...ie the sound folder....

the the game sounds are actually in the samples folder..doh !

i've tried that gap thing ...doesn't work..not for me....and that damn nfs wizard you can forget ...my comp went "tits up" after using that damn thing...

i found something called sndview which is supposed to extract these bnk files but damned if i can get it to work

i was gonna put it here for you to look at but i've binned it already

i'm still trying

cheers mate

another WOOOOOHHOOOOOOOO !!

i've listened to the sound files....i had to use RAD video tools to convert them to wav files...its gonna be tough to edit though as all the engine, crash, driving through gravel noises are all in one sound file...gonna be hard to find exactly where one noise stops and one noise begins...

what should i use for editing wav files so i can insert new ones >
Goldwave...Soundforge...of something else...??
i hoipe its not sound forge that looks as complicated as hell

just like British Rail..............we're getting there

bnk files

any chance of a sample of a bnk file soz I can check it out chunter? thanks jkat :D btw the nfs wizard works on my setup:cool:

bnk files

your ahead of me chunter!:D just downloaded radtools now! if its vocals your after extracting, its really difficult and you will not get 100% results no matter how good the editor. I can only reccomend soundforge or wave lab ( I use the latter) but here is a link for a simple editor:- http://forum.cdrsoft.cc/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3135&highlight=wave+editor also there is cool edit
http://forum.cdrsoft.cc/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2740&highlight=wave+editor . thanks for file, ill have a tinker with it now. jkat:cool: btw here is a list of audio rippers etc for games h**p://bim.km.ru/view/a589757F223A44BDDAD4B2F1DB46A290E.htm oh and have patience with soundfourge it will yield excellent results or wave lab.:D
